1. Black widow
Black widows are shiny black with a red hourglass under the belly. They like quiet, cluttered spots under patio chairs, inside mailboxes, in sheds, woodpiles, and fence corners. Brown widows are tan to gray with an orange hourglass and often live very close to homes. Both build messy, tangled webs. They're found across coastal areas such as Jacksonville Beach, Ponte Vedra, Fleming Island, Neptune Beach, Atlantic Beach, and Mayport Beach. They don't want trouble, so leave them alone and call a pro if you see one.
2. Wolf spider
Wolf spiders are big, fast, and often brown or gray with stripes. They don't use webs to catch food; instead, they hunt on the ground and sometimes wander into garages or kitchens. You will mostly see them in the yard, mulch, along sidewalks, and in sandy areas. They look scary, but they don't bite; instead, they run. Primarily founded in suburban areas like Orange Park, Nocatee, Mandarin, Riverside, and Avondale.
3. Brown recluse
Brown recluse spiders are very rare and don't live here in large numbers. They are sometimes carried in boxes or furniture. They have a violin mark and six eyes in three pairs. They are found indoors in Jacksonville counties, such as Duval County, Baker County, and Nassau County, among others. If you think you have found a brown recluse, call a professional as soon as possible.
